Mike Sparks is a versatile performer and writer based in Barnet.
As a singer/songwriter, Mike Sparks has been around folk clubs in North London for more years than he cares to remember. Mike has been a resident singer at the well known Herga Folk Club in Harrow for over fifteen years and also regularly sings at other venues.
His folk song writing career started by default in the late 1980s, encouraged by Tyneside singer/songwriter Charlie Hardy. Since then his output has been quite prolific, although he readily agrees that many of his songs have been written on a single use only basis! Visit the songs pages to see some of his lyrics.
Some of Mike's songs have now passed into the hands of others such as Johnny Collins, Graeme Knights, Lynne Heraud & Pat Turner and Tom Lewis. His songs are regularly heard in Club and Festival singarounds across the country, and in places as distant as Holland and the USA. The recordings page has details of Mike's CDs.
Have you heard any of Mike's songs being sung anywhere recently? Or perhaps there is one your own repertoire? Mike would love to hear about where his material is ending up, or any other feedback. The contact page is waiting for your input.
Mike has recently taken to the more formal professional singing stage, touring with 'Silvery Moon Productions' production of "Let Me Call You Sweetheart". Mike is also part of 'H and S Productions', writing and performing in their shows. As a long standing member of 'The Guild Players', Mike has written a number of modern style 'mystery plays' for the group to perform on their now traditional Holy Week tour around Churches in North London. Four of these plays have now been published by Lazy Bee Scripts and performing rights sold to a number of other groups.
